Flash CS5 iPhone dream ( nightmare ? )
Posted on December 4th, 2009 No comments
However this is not a recent news, i wanted to note some facts on my blog too.First of all, it’d be good to note that i have been using/coding on flash since year 1998; which makes it 12 years of experience till today. It’s fullname was Macromedia Flash 3. So i’m not an enemy of the Flash, animation and actionscript.
Warning! Some of these sentences may tease you; read them calmly before shouting at me, there is an extra paragraph related to these teasing sentences (:
First of all, for those who are not aware of the topic: Adobe announced that, CS5 will have a feature to export Flash applications as iPhone applications. iPhone will continue to NOT support SWF files in anyway. There will not be (at the time of this post – not announced by Apple) a Flash plugin even for Safari for iPhone. Flash will convert your Flash project into native/somewhat compiled iPhone application. You (currently) will not be able to test it on your computer (iPhone simulator), you have to install it to your device to try it… Ofcourse you still have to be a certified Apple iPhone developer by paying $100 per year (at the time of this post).

Talih Kuşu and Radyo are still the number one in app store
Posted on November 16th, 2009 No commentsI was not controlling the position of my “Talih Kuşu” iPhone application for a long time. Today i saw it’s icon at the first positino of Lifestyle category of app App Store. This encourages me to continue making applications without ruining their quality! Thank you all for your great support and evaluation. It’s great to see that more and more people start to see the engineering quality of the applications.
By the way, Radyo is still the number 1 paid application in the app store!
It’s good to see 2 of my applications are leading to the categories they are in.
Radyo has it’s own site now and can be reached at http://iphoneradyo.com

Update on broadcasting live TV to iPhone
Posted on October 31st, 2009 No commentsAfter working on it for 2 days, i’ve completely managed to get it working.
You can watch all of the channels over the iPhone/iPod. TV can be watched at a perfect frame rate and free from jitters.
- From a dedicated video hardware
- From an existing stream over the network
- And VOD
I don’t understand why it takes so long for tv channels to take an action.
I’ve successfully live streamed many channels at once, including TRT1, ATV.

Radyo,The App Store Winner of September
Posted on October 10th, 2009 No commentsRadyo reached to the top of the App Store in the day it was published. It stayed as the number one in all paid applications list for 30 days and stayed in top 100 in some other countries. It’s still moving up and down in Top 10. Now the next BIG version of Radyo is coming. With the version 2.0, Radyo is not only for Turkish people and it doesn’t only include Turkey for the radio region. New interface languages including English and Deutsch ( expect more languages ) and selectable radio regions include United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden and more!
For those who can’t (don’t want to) pay for the application and who are curious about the new version, we have a demo video:
You can watch it from

Acta non Verba
Posted on August 27th, 2009 1 commentThese days i see so many things that i’ve thought years ago. In this post, you won’t find me supporting my incredible ideas. Every thinking creature in this universe has things in the mind, many of these may be nonsense, but everyone has an idea. You may have found something incredible, but probably someone else had already found it; it may not be existing yet. You may see many people, from your friends, family, tv,.. saying “I’ve thought about it!! I swear! I could do it!”. YES, BUT YOU DIDN’T.

You have to be aware of the fact: You are not one in a million. ( ok, you are.. according to the point of view ) If you think that you find something (you can be sure that you are not the first one) and if it’s not yet done, do it! Don’t speak and stand still! Nothing is a unique, one-of-it’s-kind idea, but everything is undone.
- Before facebook was even heard, i’ve made a site that is same ( except application system ) with the facebook and for the same purpose; it was a private site, only for classmates. After a while, after my classmates looses their interest in the site, i’ve stopped doing it, later we saw facebook. This was not a unique idea. Probably many people did similar things.
- Before youtube was even heard, i’ve made a site that is similar to the youtube. Those days, it was a secret converting videos automatically for a web site. I had stopped doing it (it was working and usable), after i satistfied my desire for making a site/system kike that.
- I’ve even made a photo sharing site that you can use everything from 1 page without leaving and everything is movable (drag/drop). Those days, these were not that easy. Today you can put a jquery line to your code and do it in 5 seconds.

Harmless Future Optimizations for xillions
Posted on August 27th, 2009 No commentsRecently, there has been found a bug in iPhone’s camera roll display system. It’s related to the number of images taken with iPhone; if you take at least 10000 photos, you’ll face with this problem. Before returning to this topic, i want to tell about some similar problems:
When i was working for Nokta Inc. (www.nokta.com) and creating a clustering system for uploaded images, i wanted to extend possibilities and push the limits for image and user counts. Any technic might work, but according to your solution, there might be so many works that you can not handle in necessary time; not feasible. So this could ruin the project’s evolving process and project plans. You might have to re-write many codes, redesign the whole system, maybe shut the sytem for a while… Because of this, i thought “what if every person in this world uses this system with more than one account”, people laughed at me in Nokta. But i designed it in my way ( in the same time duration ). Currently i’m not working in Nokta, but if they don’t rewrite the whole code, they won’t be facing with problems related to uploaded images system for a really long time. (However.. trying to seperate images and putting them into UN-real cdn systems would break and make developers to rewrite the whole code for image system).

Converting an image to iPhone toolbar icon
Posted on August 23rd, 2009 2 commentsCreating an image for iPhone toolbar may be tricky. If you don’t want to draw pixel by pixel, or if you want more than 1 color (white), you need to make something different.
For the technic i’ll be explaining here, If you are a Photoshop expert, you may extend the possibilities, but if you are not an expert, that also won’t stop you creating icons.
Here is the small tutorial/tip:
Other than Apple’s related requirements and guidelines (HIG), follow these steps:
