If you have purchased your computer with Windows 8 already installed on it and if it is a really new computer (not just a batch with operating system replaced), you may never ask a question like this.
Problem: Applications those supposed to show video/audio, can’t show video/audio ; It may stay at “buffering” state forever, either internally or exposing this status to user visually too.
Discovery: I have found this problem, it’s visible reason and it’s visible solution while my application was being released as one of the first Windows 8 applications. I have received numerous messages through the contact form of my application and Windows Store reviews related to this problem. After some investigation i saw similar messages on other media-related applications too and when i tried those applications i saw the same problem really do exist on them too. So it was not a problem caused by my application.
Reason: You (or manufacturer) have probably installed non-Microsoft made display driver. Eventhough the relation between a display card driver and an audio application may not make sense, relation really goes down to Display driver-Microsoft Media infrastructure level.
Affected products: Any Windows 8 device with an old display adapter (WDDM 1.x) operating with NON-Microsoft display driver. (certified or not)
Official solutions: None yet. That may be possible, though it has still not been fixed since the beta versions. I have informed both Microsoft (face-to-face, MSDN forums and email) and display card manufacturers (email, forums): They couldn’t solve this issue or they don’t solve this issue and/or they won’t solve this issue. This issue MAY never be solved as i started to think that this is a low-level decision made by Microsoft. I never received information related to this situation, it may be being kept as a secret because of technical or marketing reasons.
Solution: Telling you to buy a new computer is not a solution but an alternative. You can fix this problem with only uninstalling your custom display driver. If you have installed many custom-display drivers (certified or not) uninstalling once may not fix the issue as you have to revert your display driver to Microsoft’s default display driver (Windows Display Driver Model 1.x)

I was at the Windows 8 event on 15 November 2012 from 09:00 to 18:00. New devices running Windows 8 were shown and there were parallel sessions for what’s new with new Windows 8 and Microsoft. Here is what happened between 14 November and 16 November…
On the plane, i was getting ready for the event with Dr. Bishop.
Before eating Iskender with one of my friends who lives in Istanbul, i’ve eaten his “the world’s most healthy potato fries” with almost no fat. Now i was fully ready for the event.
It was crowded and not only previously registered attenders were there.
Tea, coffee, cakes between sessions and a nice lunch too.
Some companies had stands. Software companies were continuously dragging their applications to the first page of the start screen and deleting competetive applications ( Nice (: ) There were a few models (girls) where i don’t like people looking nowhere else until crashing to eachother while walking.
RADYO is one of the applications supported by Microsoft and i was very happy to see that the logo of RADYO was on the walls at the event.
RADYO has a great partner: CASPER! Many beautiful new devices of CASPER has taken place at the event. (By the way, get a new CASPER and you will already have RADYO on your computer with premium features!) To be honest, Casper seems to be one of the brands which has beautifully designed computers that i would like to have one. The other one might be Acer. Eventhough there are many new computers of Asus, Sony, Toshiba, Acer,.. I also noticed that some of the new devices shown at the event look like Macbook and iMac.
Printed brochures of CASPER includes RADYO too.
In one of the sessions, I was honered to see RADYO on the presentation of Selcuk Uzun from Microsoft Turkiye. I want to thank to him and Microsoft again!
Between sessions, while people were fighting for tea and coffee, sun was going down silently in Istanbul.
After the sessions i hoped to see more people to watch and listen to the concert by Gürol Ağırbaş. Here is a small part of what they have missed by leaving early:
The weather was cold but it was not raining while leaving Lutfu Kirdar Kongre Merkezi.
What happens there, stays there.
After spending some time outside,
It was time to get back to the room.
The next day, i have left Istanbul aka Isangard.
It was a beautiful event and journey for me. Thank you to Microsoft again.

RADYO is now available on everywhere you see Windows 8! With this addition, RADYO is now available on PCs, Macs, iPads, iPod Touches, iPhones and will be available on mobile phones running with Windows 8 like Windows Phone 8 and Nokia’s new phones.
Here is the story!
Since the beginning of RADYO project, i have wanted it to work on Windows platform too. I couldn’t achieve it because of many reasons. I have needed enough time to make a Windows version and making it fulltime should require some kind of income from the project. Eventhough i have made many plans, those were not feasible at that time for me.
I had had many oportunuties in the past and i missed all of them for the sake of unknown ones. This time i think i succeeded in catching one of these opportunities.
I was watching one of the meetings of etohum (a great platform for entrepreneurs or wannabes) that is directed by Burak Buyukdemir. While watching the live video broadcast of the meeting, Melek Pulatkonak (DPE Lead, Microsoft Turkiye) has shown up on the stage and she talked about Windows Phone too. Well, that could be the opportunity for me to bring RADYO to Windows! Finaly?!
She directed me to the great team of Microsoft Turkiye so i can get more help related to the topic. That was the time i started getting the support of Microsoft Turkiye and after 71 days later RADYO was up and running! RADYO was completed on June 2012. After days full of nightmare on the beta of the Windows 8… I was developing an application on an unfinished operating system! How scary is that?! How possible is that?
Well (: Not that scary, not that impossible. With the amazing support from Microsoft, i was able to develop the application and it was also great to see how the bugs in the Windows 8 betas got fixed quickly.
I have not developed for Windows platform for 11 years and coding+porting RADYO for Windows 8 took only 71 days! This duration was not only composed of coding, it also includes Quality Labs meetings in Microsoft office, learning the new platform and surfing through community forums. It was almost impossible for me to get an access token because of the time left for the acceptance; i haven’t even started it! (access token is a code that lets you get your app on the store before almost anyone). Actually i did get it! Microsoft Team was quite patient and kind.
To make this long story short, I might not be able to bring RADYO to Windows this soon without Melek Pulatkonak, Microsoft Turkiye. (I think they wouldn’t want me to write their names one by one here; so i thank to all of them one by one eventhough they represent Microsoft.) and Burak Buyukdemir. Thank you!
RADYO for Windows is a huge opportunity and i hope everything will be and will stay OK!
RADYO succeeded in being one of the first projects available in Windows Store and a blog post related to this took place on official Microsoft Turkiye Blog: http://blog.microsoft.com.tr/windows-8-magaza-turkiyeye-acildi.html
I am happy to see that i finished what i started, now it is not an unfinished bussiness (:
(Including RADYO at the rightside of the screen, this screenshot is shared by Selcuk Uzun,Microsoft Turkiye on Microsoft Turkiye Blog)
On the date of this post, RADYO is the most comprehensive and advanced radio entertainment application available on Windows Store.
